The Race for Life

From conception, we enter this life with our own unique path to travel. However, our entrance is met with some common attributes and limitations that doom us. But thankfully, we also have some incredible opportunities to run a race of abundant life:

Our Desire

Somewhere within our DNA is an inherent desire to succeed at what we do. We want to win.

Our Difficulty

We face an impossible task because of an inherent disease with which we were born.

Our Deliverer

The only one who could cure our ailment is the Lord Jesus Christ. He blazed a trail, making it possible for us to enter a race to win.

Our Direction

Winning at life is inextricably linked to accepting the Deliverer's gift and letting Him place us in the race He blazed for us to run and win.

Our Destiny

When we follow in the right direction set for us, our destiny awaits. It is the ultimate and most rewarding achievement of life.
The Founder

Wayne Maynard

Wayne Maynard is on a quest to see people everywhere fulfill their God-given purpose here on earth. His drive compelled him to author his first book, “Too Blessed to Make a Mess,” a title he coined for a message he preached during a Watch Night Service in 2012. The message title struck a chord with everyone who heard it. However, Wayne’s title was more than a catchphrase; it was a mantra that guided his life every day.

Several years earlier, while still a young adult, his pursuit of a college education appeared to be devastatingly shattered when two Ivy League universities rejected his application. Another life-altering sequence of events further altered and delayed his plans a year later. Eventually, he attended college and graduated in 1999 with a Computer Science degree, having a clear realization that God guides our steps and stops for our benefit when we are yielded to Him.

Race Essentials

Like any successful athlete, we must acquire particular virtues to attain the prize.

To successfully run a race, there must be a belief that the finish line and the rewards associated with getting there are within my reach. The faith required for the race of our lives is not blind belief. But instead, it is based on confidence in God Himself, knowing He has placed us in this race for a purpose. And He will sustain, commend, and reward us for striving to the end. (Hebrews 11:6)

Our path along the road of life is littered with obstacles, traps, and hazards that can jeopardize our progress. It is vital that we possess godly wisdom to avoid these hindrances so we run effectively and purposefully. (1 Corinthians 9:26)

This race of our lives is a marathon and not a sprint. As such it requires patience to persist amidst the ups and downs. Patience produces determination to endure even when the outlook seems bleak knowing that a reward awaits at the finish line. (Hebrews 12:1)

To hit a target is to first focus on the target. We don’t generally accomplish what we don’t focus on achieving. Our success in striving for the prize requires a laser-like focus on the one who ran before us, Jesus Christ, if we are going to achieve the goal. (Hebrews 12:2)

Athletes possess such focus and determination that they are willing to give up pleasures and conveniences because to indulge in such would negatively affect their success. This mindset requires discipline to do what is difficult with consistency because of understanding what is at stake. (1 Corinthians 9:27)

The timeless fable of the race between the tortoise and the hare reveals a vital principle that humility is a critical quality for success. Pride and overconfidence are precursors to failure and vices to avoid. When we recognize our inadequacies, we then rely on God’s sufficient strength. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

Rewards are gratifying to receive after a long and arduous journey. They signify a job well done. As we strive for rewards, we must do so with excellence so that our reward will reflect the same approach and attitude we possessed during the race. (2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Make Kindness A Habit

Develop A Proper Value System

A few days ago, my wife and I entered a store, and we chuckled as we observed a sight we had seen many times before – a man comfortably seated on furniture for sale, reading a book. We presumed, and I believe with great accuracy, that he was waiting for
