I remember, as a young boy, watching the popular game show at the time, ‘Let’s Make a Deal’, on TV. This show placed participants in positions where they would be tempted to take risks, giving up an item of value they were sure to win to choose what was unknown behind a door.
The comical part and even tragic part of the show would be to witness someone give up something of great value, only to win two goats. Or sometimes they would make a deal, hold on to what they had, and miss out on a car behind the door.
On the journey of life, doors symbolize opportunity. They represent a chance to explore and encounter something different, something new from what is currently being experienced.
However, they also represent, for the individual, a certain level of uncertainty and risk because it is not entirely clear what will be encountered behind that door.
In Revelation 3, Jesus is addressing a church via the pastor, who is referred to as the angel. This time, it’s the church of Philadelphia, and he makes a statement in verse 8:
I have set before thee an open door.
This represents an opportunity, not just any opportunity, but one provided by the creator of the universe. There is something very special and significant about this opportunity simply by virtue of the one who is giving it.
This is no ordinary door, no ordinary opportunity.
And today, Jesus has doors of opportunity available for all of us. It would behoove us to walk through them.
We miss out on incredible blessings if we don’t walk through the doors of opportunity that God has set before us. God wants us to know what doors to walk through.
Here are the keys to ensuring that you are walking through the right doors:
- Recognize the Problem of Sin.
- Respond to the Promise of the Savior.
- Read and Practice the Scripture.
- Regularly Pray with Sincerity.
- Rely on the Power of the Holy Spirit.
- Reach out to People who are Spiritual.
- Embrace your Responsibility to Prioritize Service to God.
- Refrain from a Prideful Spirit.
- Remember your Purpose and its Significance
As you do these things, God will give you wisdom and lead you to walk through the doors He has set before you.
