Don’t Get Tired Of Doing Right

Several years ago, I was on a quest to add some more bulk to my frame. I wanted to get more muscular – to put on some more weight. So, I purchased a gym membership. The gym was literally right across the street from where I lived.

I started going and exercising and purchased protein powder, as I understood that I needed the extra protein to build muscle. But I did not enjoy those protein drinks at all. They were terrible. But I decided to do it because I wanted to accomplish the objective.

After about a month of consistently following my new routine, I stepped on the scale and saw that I had gained ten pounds. That was an amazing accomplishment. I had never reached that weight before in my life. The goal was being achieved.

But as I continued this quest, I got tired. I felt like I couldn’t keep up with drinking these protein drinks every day and going to the gym consistently. I thought to myself, “If I have to go through all this to gain some muscle, this is not for me.”

I stopped going to the gym, stopped drinking the protein shakes, and lost the ten pounds in about a week or two. I’ve been the same weight and size since then.

Long-term success requires consistency, patience, and willingness to do things that are not always convenient and easy. The Apostle Paul understood the tendency that we have to give up in pursuit of success, particularly when it comes to doing right. This is why he wrote in Galatians 6:10:

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Going in the wrong direction, accepting the status quo, and going with the flow are easier alternatives than being persistent and consistent about doing right. However, the easier path results in opportunities lost, productivity limited, impact diminished, and benefits bypassed.

So, my encouragement is, don’t give up, give out, or give in. Doing right will always be worth it even when it doesn’t look like it. Don’t get weary doing right. Be assured that the benefits are waiting and worth it!
