Know When It’s Not Your Battle To Fight

When I was in primary school, I knew that, as the eldest sibling, I didn’t have a big brother or sister to defend or fight for me if needed. I realized I was on my own. So, I fought my own fights. I’m not very proud of this confession.

The Bible reveals that there are times when God’s people, Israel, came up against their enemies. Sometimes, they had to pick up their weapons themselves and fight. But in some situations, God’s people did not have to fight at all. God took care of the enemy without his people lifting a finger.

Exodus 14 is one such example, when Pharaoh and his armies came against the children of Israel. As they were in panic mode, Moses said to them in Exodus 14:13-14:

“Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

There will be battles on earth where God requires us to engage the enemy and fight. But there will be times when God will take on the fight all by Himself. It takes discernment to know when a particular battle is completely out of our hands and in God’s hands.

Here are some truths to be reminded of when it’s not our battle to fight:

1) We were not designed or expected to handle every fight. Some situations will come up when we don’t have answers or solutions. We are cornered on every side.

2) When we have no way out, God is still in control. He has a plan and a purpose, even when we can’t see it.

3) God wants us to be calm and to trust Him. Our calm is a sign of our confidence and trust in God

4) When God intervenes, the result is without any doubt.

5) When God shows up, our faith in Him will increase because we saw what He did without our involvement.

It is not comfortable to feel powerless and unable to resolve or respond to our problems. However, in such situations, God’s divine hand can still work on behalf of those who trust Him. So, even when the battle is not in your control, don’t lose hope. God has never lost a battle.
