A few days
ago, I went to town to run some errands. And as is the norm, I expected to have
difficulty finding parking. Nevertheless, I prayed and hoped that this would
not be the case on this day. Thankfully, I soon found a spot. And I went about
to do my business.
Upon returning
to my vehicle, I noticed a man sitting not too far from where I had parked. I nodded
and waved to him. However, I noticed that he seemed interested in speaking with
me. So I walked over to him.
He then informed
me that, while I was gone, a car parked not too far behind me had attempted to
completely block me in. But due to his insistence and objection, he convinced
the driver that this action was completely inappropriate. In doing so, he
averted a disastrous situation for me. Otherwise, I would have been trapped,
with absolutely no way to get out or find the driver until he returned.
I was
amazed that someone would be that insensitive and inconsiderate. But I was also
very relieved and grateful that someone would be so kind as to look out for another’s
well-being, whom he didn’t know and might never even meet. This act has stuck
with me and demonstrates some important lessons about kindness:
1. Kindness
can be demonstrated by anyone.
2. Kindness
can be extended to anyone.
3. Opportunities
abound to demonstrate kindness.
Galatians
6:10 says, ‘As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men,
especially unto them who are of the household of faith.’
With this in mind, endeavor to make kindness a habit. It requires intentionality and a willingness to seek ways and persons to be kind to. I assure you that there is no shortage of people and opportunities.
