Seek Transformation Instead Of Conformation

When you look at our world, change is constant: the weather, the economy, governments, technology, and more. Sometimes the change is for the better; sometimes it is not. Sometimes it is gradual. But in other instances, it is rapid and dramatic.

One well-known example of a dramatic change is the metamorphosis that occurs when a caterpillar enters a cocoon and transforms into a butterfly. The creature that existed before this fascinating process and the one produced afterward don’t resemble each other.

This type of change is not the usual way we experience and witness change. Most change is gradual rather than drastic. We, as human beings, find change difficult, as evidenced by New Year’s resolutions that rarely make it into February. Nevertheless, change is possible. In fact, change for us ought to be transformational.

The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 12:2, ‘And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.’

He cautioned against passive change that results from fitting in based on our surroundings, tendencies, and feelings. He describes this as ‘conforming’, like ice taking the shape of a container.

On the contrary, he encouraged transformation, the type of change that is dramatic and revolutionary. This is not conventional. But it takes place when:

  1. God performs a change in our hearts that only He can do, based on our faith in Him and what Jesus did for us,
  2. We let God’s Word renew our minds, as opposed to our perspectives, habits, and even human logic.

Change is not easy because of our inherent sinful nature. But change is possible and necessary. So, submit to the process and watch an incredible metamorphosis take place in your life!
