Trust the Architect

Do you have childhood memories that you could never forget? These memories have a way of shaping and impacting our lives. One such memory for me was seeing my dad draw the plan for his house. I remember him starting by sketching it on paper. Then, he got a box, placed a light bulb inside, put a sheet of glass on top of the open box, and meticulously drew the plan to scale.

The plans were so carefully drafted that I thought he was an architect. So, when he was ready to submit the plans to the Department of Planning and they said he needed an architect, I thought, But you did it already. Later, I realized he didn’t have the credentials to certify that he was an architect, even though I was convinced he possessed all the necessary skills.

Those initial steps of faith marked the beginning of a journey that would take many more. But it must have been an indescribable joy to see those plans on paper translated into a house–to see a vision become reality.

The process of planning is so essential to success. But think with me: if human beings plan to accomplish a goal, how much more would the God of the universe have a sovereign plan for all of creation and for each person who has been created in His image?

Jeremiah 29:11 says, ‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.’

I can recall very vividly, after graduating from high school, wondering,

What does my future hold?
What will my family look like?
What will my career path be?
Where will I live?
Will I be a success?

At the time, the answers were vague and, in most cases, non-existent. But I’ve realized that you and I don’t have to figure out the plan. We need to trust in the One who made the plan. That is God, the Creator and Sustainer of life.

Within God’s plan, we have been given the ability to choose. Our choices determine whether we experience the fullness of what He has for us. And, yes, we often make mistakes. Sometimes, we face circumstances we can’t control and didn’t ask for. But take comfort in knowing that no matter who you are, God has a plan for your life. Seek Him, and He will reveal it to you. You won’t be disappointed. It is a beautiful plan.
