Years ago, my family decided to tackle a jigsaw puzzle for our family night activity. Our children weren’t thrilled with the idea, but they joined in anyway. There are many approaches that one can take to complete a jigsaw puzzle. However, our approach was to tackle the obvious and easiest parts first, such as identifying the corners and edges, then focusing on the distinctive and easily identifiable sections. After doing that, we were then able to figure out where some of the not-so-obvious pieces fit, until eventually (after multiple family nights), the puzzle was complete.
Life brings with it challenges that overwhelm us and seem beyond our ability. When this happens, here are a few steps to take:
- Avoid being consumed by the magnitude of the problem. The size of the problem does not mean that there is no solution. It might just mean that it will take some time.
- Break the problem into smaller tasks. When we do this, we will realize that there are some simple and obvious things we can do to make progress toward solving the problem.
- Perform these tasks wholeheartedly. This approach will result in increased confidence and momentum as consistency is achieved and progress is made.
But here is where something exciting begins to happen. As we do the things we can that are in accordance with God’s Will, God will give us the wisdom to tackle what previously seemed impossible and also provide the resources and assistance to get the job done.
Solomon admonishes in Ecclesiastes 11:4, “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.”
So, whatever you face today, no matter how hard it is, find out what you can do, and do what you can.
